Werner Heisenberg

  • Birth

    Born in Wurzburg, Germany
  • First Published Work

Werner Heisenberg publishes his first paper titled “On the Quantum Theory of Line Structure and of the Anomalous Zeeman Effects". When he published this paper he immediately got the recognition of several theoretical physicist who appreciated his work and new perspective in the field.

  • Nobel Prize In Physics

Awarded the prize for the creation of quantum mechanics in 1932 but did not receive it until the following year. His theory that was published in 1925 helped with the discovery of allotropic hydrogen which stated that particles positions and momentum cannot be known exactly.

  • German Atomic Program

During 1941-1942 Werner Heisenberg was a main contributor to the German Atomic Program which was in competition with the United States Manhattan Project which we know he was unsuccessful on completing since the U.S beat the Germans to the creation of the atomic bomb. Heisenberg expressed that he believed there would not be an atomic bomb until 1945 which later was proved wrong when Oppenheimer led the Manhattan project to its successful creation of the atomic bomb.
  • Farm Hall

Heisenberg and several German nuclear scientist were interned following the war at Farm Hall in England to investigate the knowledge they had on the creation of the atomic bomb. They would be in custody until 1946 when the British released them.
