Introduction of Rentenmark
The picture is of a Rentenmark, which was the new currency introduced to Germany in 1923. Stresemann introduced the currency as a part of his plan to save the German economy from hyperinflation. -
Dawes Plan
The political cartoon shows Stresemann (left) holding the Dawes Plan in front of the allied nations to the right of the photo. Stresemann is thin, while the other people are not and are very well dressed, reflecting the poor economy in Germany. Stresemann stands alone while presenting the plan, represented the dislike many of the allied nations held towards Germany, especially after Germany’s failure to maintain its reparation payments. -
