Paul Feyerabend
Paul Feyerabend, born January 13th, 1924, was an Austrian born Philosopher. Feyerabend’s most notable work was the against method in which he would argue against the ‘rationalist’ case that there were identifiable set of rules of scientific method and fellow philosopher Lakatos would argue against it (Preston.2020). The Against Method, gave an anarchist thinking to the scientific method which meant there were no methods or rules governing science or the growth of knowledge. -
John Polkinghorne
John Polkinghorne, born October 16th, 1930, was an English theoretical physicist that explored the relationship between religion and science. A renowned physicist he made a major career change and decided to join the Church of England in 1977 as an ordained minister. Polkinghorne passed away in March of 2021. (O’CONNER, JJ.2008) -
Hilary Putnam
Hilary Putnam, born July 31, 1926, was an American Philosopher. One of Putnams most well known work was the ‘Brains in a Vat’. This is the view that the meanings and truth conditions of one's sentences, and the contents of one's intentional mental states, depend upon the character of one's external, causal environment(Brueckner.2004). Putnam argued that there are no means for the Brain in the vat to have any connection or representation of objects because they could not reference them. -
Danial Dennett
Danial Dennett, born March 28th, 1942, is an American Philosopher who expaneds on Philosophy of the Mind and consciousness. Dennett argues that there is no single place consciousness occurs, but it is rather multiple parts of the human brain make up consciousness (Van Gulick.2014).
