  • Noam Chomsky (7 December 1928 - Present)

    Chomsky wrote his first book, Syntactic Structures, going against the traditional learning theory of language. In his book, he talks about how certain aspects of language learning are due to a universal ability to pick up language that normal children are born with.

    Chomsky submitted a review of Verbal Behavior by B. F. Skinner. This review gained a lot of attention as it opposed Skinner and pointed out the problems related to language acquisition and behaviorism. This initiated the cognitive revolution in psychology.

    Chomsky wrote his book, Aspects of the Theory of Syntax, which introduced the theory of the "Standard Model". Some aspects of the theory is that there is universal grammar, mental rules that allow us to form sentences, and the face we are all born with a Language Acquisition Device.

This theory showed an evolution of his previous ideas and advanced the philosophy of science by showing that all languages share a universal structure.
