First Fleet.
Europeans first came to Australia in 1788 and established a prison settlement because gaols in England were very crowded. The First fleet of 11 ships took 8 months to travel from England to Australia by boat. 1350 people arrived at Sydney Cove, the trip was led by Captain Arthur Phillip. When they came here, they saw the Aboriginal people, they thought of them as like animals because they didn't have proper housing etc. The English people brought diseases over and it killed the Aboriginals. -
Gold Rush first found/NSW.
This was the day where gold was first found in Bathurst, New South Wales. Edward Hargraves claimed it near a site called Ophir. About 8 months later there was gold found in Ballarat and Bendigo in Victoria causing a lot if stir, people from all over the world came, usually by boat and this changed Australia because it made the population go up a lot, people started coming from china, europe etc when they heard about gold being found in Australia. -
First Chinese settler.
Mak Sai Ying was the first Chinese born Settler. He worked as a carpenter, living with John Blaxland on his Newington Estate. After three years, he worked at Elizabeth Farm for Elizabeth Macarthur. Australia soon accepted Chinese immigrants, as there weren’t enough people for labour in New South Wales. -
Post World War 1
Some effects it had on Germany and England was that a lot of people died trying to protect the country, women had to replace the men in the workforce, people came over here because the war was over and they thought they could start again, they migrated here by boat, this changed Australia because there were a lot of people coming and they brought their cultures here as well and they started coming during the wars that were happening in thier country. This day now called Veterans Day. -
Importance of migration.
Immigration is an important feature of Australian society. Since 1945, over six million people from 200 countries have come to Australia as new settlers. Migrants have made a major contribution to shaping modern Australia. People born overseas make up almost one quarter of the total population. They wanted to let different types of people in and be a multicultral society. -
Post World War 2.
After this war had ended, it brought hope to everyone that this will be the end and that peace will come to them. The damage caused by this war was truely devastaing, and how much people died was so much, after this war ended, people moved to Australia again to start again, when they came here they bought many thing with them and that meant that different types of skills, food and art. It also made Australia a more diversed country. -
White Australia Policy.
(dont know the exact date) The white policy is when there were only 'white' people allowed into Australia, so if you were not white, it was likely you weren't able to get in. It only lasted until 1973, it was changed so that meant anyone could migrate to Australia. -
Stolen Generation
Aboriginal children were taken away from their families by the Australian Federal and State government agencies and church missions, under acts of their respective parliaments.. This event is what started the ‘Stolen Generation’. They were raised in institutions, or fostered to white families. Between 1910 and 1970 up to 100 000 Aboriginal children were taken forcibly from their families by welfare officers or police. -
Third Fleet.
Third fleet arrives, transporting over 2000 convicts, they got here by ships. The passengers varied from convicts, military personnels and some other people sent to fill high positions in the colony, they came here because they used Australia as a place to insolate convicts and this changed Australia because the English people brought more people here and this made Australia grow and also this meant that they brought different types of skills to use here and food. -
Migration from Indochina (Cambodia)
(sorry i cant find the exact date again) Thousands of cambodian people came to Australia by boat, along with them they brought with them food, different types of clothing, food and culture. They came here because they wanted a better future, Australia didn't have a war and it was a place where there was freedom for them, this changed Australia because it made it more diversed, more people living here. They came here when 'POL POT' was ruling cambodia, he didn't give them freedom. -
Migration from Indochina (Vietnam)
(i put in a random day and month because i can't fnd the actual one) Up until 1975, there were only about less than 2000 people living here in Australia. They came to Australia because they tried fighting the communists, but they loss so they had to run away, they went on small boats which held up to 200 people, about 500,000 fled here by boat, they chose Australia because it was closest and we are an un Communsist country. They brought with them asian culture which was new to Australia. -
Modern Migration.
Migrating now a days to Australia is different from what it is like back then for example you need a sponsor to help you and also, it would be a little easier if you were coming here for a family re union. Back then, they came here by boat but now they travel here by plane. Some come here for a better life, escape poverty, education and maybe to reunite with friends and family. This has an impact on Australia because more people coming means that Australia is getting more diversed and is growing
