War Breaks Out in Texas
On April 25, 1846 Mexican soldiers fired on American troops who were patrolling along the Rio Grande. In this war 16 American soldiers were killed or wounded. This was an excuse for war that Polk had ben waiting for. -
The War of Northern Mexico
Then in February 1847, two forces met near a ranch called Buena Vista. After two days of fighting Santa Anna retreated south. -
General Winfield Scott captured Mexico City
On September 1847 General Winfield Scott also known as " Old Fuss and Feathers" and his troops fought their way to Mexico City the capitol of Mexico to defend the fortress. Despite such determinated resistance Scott's army finally captured Mexico City. -
The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
Early in 1848 Mexico and the United States signed the Treaty of Guadalupe hidalgo. This treaty is about Mexico agreeing to give up Texas and a vast region known as the Mexican Cession. -
Gadsden Purchas
In 1853 James godsden arranged the puchas of a strip of land south of the Mexican Cession for 10 million dollars called the Gadsden Purchase.
