US Attacks North-Pakistan Using Drones
The United States government, led by the Central Intelligence Agency's Special Activities Division, begins a series of ongoing attacks on targets in northwest Pakistan using drones (unmanned aerial vehicles). These attacks sought to defeat the Taliban and Al-Qaeda militants who were thought to have found a safe haven in Pakistan. -
1st London Bombings
The 1st London suicide bombings kill 52 people and injure 700 more. Four Islamist men detonated four bombs—three in quick succession aboard London Underground trains across the city and, later, a fourth on a double-decker bus in Tavistock Square. -

The government of Pakistan's official death toll was 75,000. Saddam Hussein Dies
Saddam Hussein was sentenced to death by hanging in 2006 after trials in June of 2004. He was charged by the Iraqi Special Tribunal with crimes committed against residents of Dujail in 1982, following a failed assassination attempt against him. Specific charges included the murder of 148 people, torture of women and children and the illegal arrest of 399 others. -
