    Pot is outlawed because a Texas police captain suggested that pot gave Mexicans superhuman strength to commit acts of violence.

  • United States Narcotics Bureau is formed

    Harry Anslinger starts a war against pot in America by titling an article " Marijuana, the assassin of youth".

  • LSD is Outlawed

    As an effort to stop the counter culture of young Americans in the 1960's the government made it illegal and was declared a schedule 1 substance.

  • Nixon declares war on drugs

    in 1981, Nancy Reagan, President Reagans wife came up with a slogan used across America for anti-drug use.

  • Gap betwen Crack and Cocaine

    In 1992 President Bill Clinton rejected a U.S. Sentencing commission recommendation to eliminate the large gap between crack and cocaine sentences.

  • The rise of prisons

    The amount of people in prison for non violent drug offenses increased from 50,000 in 1980 to 400,000 by 1997.
