  • Washington’s Proclamation of Neutrality

    George Washington's formal announcement declaring neutrality between the ongoing conflict between the French and British.
  • Impressment of Sailors

    American sailors were being taken prisoner by the British and forced to serve in their navy. This was essentially kidnapping sailors and forcing them to serve against their will.
  • Jay Treaty

    A treaty put in place between Britain and the United States that was meant to settle disputes and issues between the two powers, that haven't been resolved since the Treaty of Paris.(1783)
  • Washington’s Farewell Address

    George Washington's final major address to the nation before retiring. He warned American citizens of political parties and of creating divisions between Americans due to politics and geographic location.
  • Chesapeake-Leopard Affair

    A naval battle battle that occurred between the Americans and British. This raised tensions. British attacked an American ship off the coast of Virginia.
  • Embargo Act 1807

    The embargo act prevented trade with most foreign nations, because of the on-going wars in Europe which was affecting the USA due to Americans being caught in the cross fire.
  • Tecumseh 1

    Tecumseh was an Shawnee chief. His tribe was attacked by the Americans. Once the war begins he creates a Native American Confederacy which unites militarily against the Americans, with the British.
  • War Hawks

    The War Hawks were a group of pro war politicians leading up to the war of 1812. They were usually younger politicians from southern and western states.
  • War of 1812 Begins

    President Madison officially declared war on Britain. This was because of the various disrespects to the nations sovereignty done by the British.
  • Tecumseh (2)

    Tecumseh dies, which leads to the Indians allied with Britain pulling out of the war.
  • Hartford Convention

    A series of conventions during late 1814 and early 1815 in which the Federalist discussed their grievances with the federal government and the current state of things.. They spoke about how New England needed aid and the worsening situation. However shorty after, news of general Andrew Jackson beating the British had spread and made the Federalist seem like fools. After this the Federalist as a political party was no more.
  • Treaty of Ghent

    The Treaty of Ghent was the treaty that officially ended the are of 1812. It restored the pre-war borders and was to come into affect in February. It also planned for a commission to be created that would draw the official border between Canada and the United States. It's name comes from where it was signed, Ghent, Belgium.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    The last major battle of The War of 1812. It resulted in an American victory. The general in command was Andrew Jackson. After this victory, the Federalist faded into obscurity.
