Washington’s Proclamation of Neutrality
This document, declared by George Washington, was to inform Britain that the U.S. was neutral in the war between Britain and France. The reason for this being drafted was to prevent the U.S. from becoming a war ground. this was the start of the foreign and domestic policies. Tis document also made it apparent that the U.S. did not want to form alliances with people out of trouble (permanent). -
Jay Treaty
The Jay Treaty drafted by John Jay was to resolve issues between the U.S. and Great Britain since the colonies left Great Britain. tensions still remained hight between the two countries after the treaty was signed. the treaty was not accepted well by American citizens because it favored British interests more than Americans. -

Impressment of Sailors
the impressment of sailors began in 1793 because Britain could not enlist enough sailors for the napoleonic war. this was a large contributor to the war of 1812, with more than 15,000 U.S. sailors impressed by British government. during this time the French also impressed sailors, but not for a specific reason unlike the British. -
Washington’s Farewell Address
George Washington's farewell address was his address to the nation as well as warnings before he left his presidency. The farewell address served to tell the people that he would not be serving a third term. this address also served to warn the people of political parties and their dangers of dividing the country, to be neutral in alliances and not form permanent alliances, the importance of education, morality, and religion. -
Chesapeake-Leopard Affair
this affair was a significant incident that primarily aroused tensions between the U.S. and Britain. n this event, Britain was on a search for traitors while encountering an American war ship and demanded to search it, when the British were denied access, they opened fire on the American ship ending in 3 killed and 18 wounded. -
Embargo Act
The Embargo act, made by the U.S., was made to pressure foreign countries to respect and rely on American trade, by prohibiting trade to foreign countries. Instead when the bill was made it only hurt Americans, it slowed down businesses, left people unemployed, made living a struggle for everyone in America. The non-intercourse act replaced this bill so they could trade with any country except Britain and France. -
Tecumseh
in July of 1812 Native American leader, Tecumseh, aligned the Native Americans with Britain to help fight against the U.S. in the War of 1812. they aligned themselves because they disliked America and if they were victorious they would have land in the west. -
War Hawks
The war Hawks were 5 young people including Henry Clay, John C, and Felix Grundy that were very adamant about the war against Great Britain. They swayed public opinion and congress into declaring was on Britain for several reasons such as, the Impressment of sailors, expansion of U.S. territory, and trade restrictions. These were all topics that made the War Hawks and America want to declare war on Britain. Even after the war the War Hawks were heavily involved in politics. -
War of 1812
the war of 1812 was fought between America and Great Britain. Congress voted in agreeance of this war for numerous reasons such as, impressment of American sailors, implemented trade restrictions on America, America wanted to expand specifically into British territory, and Native Americans and Britain were closely aligned to rebel against the U.S. -
Tecumseh
On this date, Tecumseh, the Native American leader, died in the war of 1812. when Harrison invaded Canada, the British and the Native Americans were forced to flee, when they got to the river of Thames Tecumseh was killed by Colonial Richard M. Johnson. this death caused Tecumseh's confederacy to collapse. -

Hartford Convention
the Hartford convention was a multitude of meetings held in Hartford, Connecticut from December 15, 1814 to January 5, 1815. in these secret meetings, delegates of various states, who were also members of the Federalist Party, discussed their grievances with the war of 1812 and their problems with the way James Madisons' presidency was going. when the convention came forward with demands to amending the constitution, they were labeled as traitors because the war had just ended. -
Treaty of Ghent
The Treaty of Ghent is the peace agreement between Britain and America in the war of 1812. In this treaty it was stated that neither country would gain any land from the other, however the treaty did not address the issues that led to war but both countries agreed on no hostility and return to peace. After this treaty was signed and established, the U.S. could finally return to peace and begin growing as a country. -
Battle of New Orleans
the battle of New Orleans was the final battle of 1812 fought in New Orleans, Louisiana. this battle was fought after the Treaty of Ghent had been signed which declared the war over, but because of slow travel the message was delayed to British troops. Jackson's use of terrain as a natural defense stopped the British troops from attacking successfully and ended with 2,000 British troops killed and only 70 Americans killed.
