    Impressment of Sailors
    The impressment of sailors was when men were captured and forced to join the naval service. Since Britain wanted more people in their military they decided to seize ships and make American sailors join their navy, to fight in the Napoleonic Wars. The effect of this event on the War of 1812 was that the three years of warfare didn’t do anything but settle the main cause of the war.

    Washington's Proclamation of Neutrality
    The Washington Proclamation was created to make neutral relationships between France and Great Britain. Even though this proclamation was supposed to stop tension. However, it created tension between France, Great Britain, and America which led to the War of 1812.

    The Jay Treaty was established after Britain seized American ships and sailors. Washington sent John Jay to London to negotiate. The Jay Treaty did not solve the seizing of the ships or the sailors. This treaty was an example of how America was weak. This treaty led to John Jay being unsuccessful and the impressment of American sailors into the Royal Navy played a big role in the War of 1812.

    When Washington left the presidency he made the Farewell Address which was a letter to the public. Washington states that America should stay united with each other, remain neutral towards other nations to prevent war and be careful when making alliances. This led to the War of 1812 because Great Britain started interfering with America by seizing trade ships and kidnapping sailors, therefore America declared war.

    Chesapeake-Leopard Affair
    The Chesapeake-Leopard Affair was where British naval vessels were blocking French ships in the Chesapeake Bay. The British wanted to search the USS Chesapeake but Commodore James Barron refused which led to the British attack. Because of this event, it raised tensions between both countries and many Americans wanted war.

    Thomas Jefferson developed the Embargo Act to stop trade between the foreign nations, he did this because he believed that this would affect Britain. However, that was not the case it hurt the Americans economically and it increased tension between America and Britain.

    The war hawks were young members of Congress who wanted to go to war with Great Britain so they could be able to gain land. War Hawks urged the government to make war with Britain, which they liked aggressive foreign policies.

    Tecumseh created and was a leader of the Shawnee and a tribal confederacy. He and his tribe fought many wars but the main one was the Battle of Tippecanoe. An American General and his army defeated the Indians and created the Treaty of Fort Wayne which forced the natives to give up their land.

    The War of 1812 began because Great Britain was making restrictions on trade and the impressment of the sailors. America started to invade Canada but many of them started to surrender. America had defeated the British and the treaty of Ghent was taken place to end the war.

    During the Battle of Thames where natives and Americans were fighting, Tecumseh had created an alliance with the British soldiers to defeat the Americans. However, they were defeated by the Americans and they had control over the northwest which gave them more land.

    The Hartford convention was where a group of federalists met secretly because they were angry over the war and the power was given to the South, and protested against James Madison because of the War of 1812. This convention ended the Federalist Party because of the lack of support.

    The Treaty of Ghent ended the War of 1812, and the conflict between Britain and America. This treaty was considered a peace treaty because Britain had agreed to give the North-West territory that they had claimed.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    Battle of New Orleans
    The Battle of New Orleans was the last war between Britain and America. The British attacked because they were unable to claim Baltimore, so therefore they planned to attack New Orleans. This war was fought between British and American soldiers and led to an American victory. The treaty of Ghent leads this war and the War of 1812 to an end.
