America chooses to join
America joins the war as soon as the British are weak. They also wanted to go into debt, this would create jobs and make a bigger economy. Since Britain was vulnurable, it would be easier for America. -
River Niagara
American invaders crossed the Niagara River and were driven back. Isaac Brock, the British commander, was killed attacking Americans. This was a small start of violence in Canada. -
Napoleon's failure
Britains position strengthened greatly after Napoleon's failure. Later he rejected Prussian terms for suppot, and Prussia declared war on Napoleon. This whole situation made Britain get their power back. -
The Chesapeake Bay
The British campaign was launched for the focus of American territory. It was intended to reduce pressure on Canada. In order to improve negotiations, American territory had to be conqured. -
Attacks on Canada
Americans attacked Canada in 1814 but had little success. The U.S. did make some gains against the Creek, and Muskogee. This did not effect the British polocies. -
Washington D.C
The British easily defeated the American forces defending Washington. Public buildings were destroyed by British troops. The attack angered Americans and fueled their hate for Britain. -
New Orleans
Advance in New Orleans was less successful than Chesapeake Bay. It denied the British a base, but scracely stopped their operations in the Gulf of Mexico. There were no American fleet that could be based in New Orleans. -
aftermath/outcome
The territorial expansion after ther war was obtained at the expense of Native Americans and of Spain in Flordia. The British said they would restore Native Americans to their pre war situation, but there was no guarantee and changes were never made. War of 1812 affirmed the Treaty of Versailles and the Louisiana Purchase. -
Aftermath/outcome
A positive for America is that the war ended involvment with Europe. The war gave Jobs and expanded economy. The territorial expansion continued manifest destiny.
