Queen Anne's War
Queen Anne’s War took place in Florida, New England, New France, and in parts of Canada. Although part of the Spanish succession, the war that blend into the colonies was about who would own the land for future trade and development. For the colonies in the Americas this was an example of using war to support the political ambitions and imperial greed. -
Stono Rebellion
The Stono Rebellion of 1739 was the largest uprising of slaves in the British colonies which led to the Negro Act of 1740. The rebellion is an early example of Patsy Proxy where the Spanish used the slaves to destabilize British rule in the colonies. -
Proclamation of 1763
The Proclamation of 1763 aimed to decrease the conflicts on the frontier. Written by King George III, it provided boundaries for the colonies, Indian Reserves and the Spanish territories. It was supposed to bring order to the expansion westward but was taken as a slap in the face by the colonist and set them on a path for independence. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was a response to growing political aggression by the British Parliament to the colonies. By dumping all the tea into the harbor, the Sons of Liberty destroyed over one million dollars in today’s currency. The political backlash of no taxation without representation and the Coercive Acts united the thirteen colonies towards a common goal. -
The Revolutionary War
After growing political tensions, the Revolutionary War started on April 19, 1775 when the colonies wanted their freedom from Great Britain. The global war pinned the colonies and both the French and Spanish Empires against the British Empire. -
French Revolution
Much like Great Britain taxing the colonies to help pay for their war efforts, France taxed its people to relieve its debt after long wars which was met with great resistance. The French Revolution may be the most significant challenge to political absolution and created the modern socialist movement which influenced future revolutions. It also saw the rise of democracies and republics and gave birth to the total war philosophy. -
The Revolution of 1800
The revolution of 1800 was a political statement from the people after the fallout of the French revolution. The bloodless revolution was a change from the strong government federalists to smaller government and states’ rights republican leadership. This political transformation from one party controlling the government to another will be seen again throughout history.
