  • Reverend Thich Quang Duc

    Reverend Thich Quang Duc
Buddhist monk self emanating in Saigon to protest the Vietnamese war. This photo was one of the most iconic forms of protest in this war. A buddhist monk set himself on fire to protest the Vietnam war. I think this inspired people both in America and in Vietnam to speak out against the violence in Vietnam and the United States involvement.
  • March Against the Vietnam War

    March Against the Vietnam War
A soldier throws his medals over a fence at the US parliament building in protest. People in the United States were notoriously angry about what was going on in Vietnam and did not like that they were continuing involvement. This photo depicts united states veterans from the Vietnam war throwing their belongings at the white house. This symbolized that even people who agree with the army's efforts are fed up with United States involvement in Vietnam.
  • Qui Nhon bombing raid

    Qui Nhon bombing raid
Family fleeing across a river to avoid bombing I decided to show some pictures of the innocent people in Vietnam being effected to show once of the reasons this war ws being protested. This was brought civilians back home their first real look at what the war brings to those not involved. People at home used to believe that only soldiers would be involved in the conflict but this photo of a mother and her children desperately fleeing showed them that unwilling civilians are being terrorized.

    Sheep Meadow, Central Park
Young men burn their draft cards in a form of protest against the war efforts in Vietnam The United States adopted the draft lottery to help their efforts in Vietnam. In most situations, citizens would respect a draft and would not think twice before accepting their fate and heading to battle. This war was so widely protested that people took this as an opportunity to further demonstrate their anger by burning their draft cards and facing fines. It shows how fed up the Americans became

A protester approaches the police line during an anti-Vietnam protest in front of the pentagon This is a picture that perfectly depicts how unafraid Americans were when it came to standing up for what they believed in, which was American troops coming home from Vietnam. At this point during the war Americans were not stopping at anything to express how fed up they have become.
  • Grieving Widow

    Grieving Widow
A widow cries over the body of her husband who was found in a mass grave. He was killed during the Tet offensive. This photo is another example of a side of war that the Americans were seeing for the first time. This photo personifies the Vietnamese and it makes people who were generally separated from the war realize that these soldiers and these dying people are part of families and this war was violent and dirty.
  • Days of Rage

    Days of Rage
Students for a Democratic Society organize a 3 day protest against the Vietnam war in Chicago. This last photo shows the magnitude of the Vietnam war protests. Hundreds of people were showing up to these demonstrations across the country to help prove their point. Most of these protesters were the new generation of students and young people who had more of a peace before war mentality.

Vietnamese children flee from a napalm attack. This last photo is the most powerful of the ones I showed from the Vietnamese side of the war, in my opinion. There is no way to rationalize or defend violent actions carried out against children who could not have had anything to do with the war efforts. Pictures like these being distributed in the United States is what allowed people to see what war really looks like and it started a new age of anti-violence and anti-war.
