Last American combat troops left Vietnam
The U.S. military command in South Vietnam, MACV ceased to exist. Fewer than 250 U.S. military personnel remained in Vietnam assighned to the U.S. Embassy in Saigon for advisory duties plus a few marines for protection of the Embassy. About 8500 civilians working for the U.S. government remained in South South Vietnam. -

The Case-Church Amendment approved
The U.S. Congress approved the Case-Church Amendment and signed into law prohibiting further U.S. military activity in VIetnam, Laos and Cambodia after 15 August 1973. This ended direct U.S. military involvment in the Vietnam War, although the U.S. continuted to provide military equipment and economic support to the South Vietnamese government.
