    Starting January 31, 1968, the North Vietnamese began attacking South Vietnam. Over 100 cities were raided by the time it ended on September 23, 1968. Americans were shocked because they believed they were close to beating North Vietnam.

    In 1968, Nixon was done carrying South Vietnam through the war. He implemented the vietnamization policy to encourage South Vietnam to take a larger combat role while Nixon removed US troops.

    During the Vietnam war, a group of US soldiers attacked civilians of My Lai. About 500 men, women and children were killed. This resulted in many Americans changing their mind about the war.

    Republican Richard Nixon's presidency began in 1969, making him the 37th president. He was responsible for stopping the war with Vietnam and building ties with the Chinese.

    In New York City, construction and office workers attacked 20,000 people protesting the Vietnam war. They wanted to let it be known that they supported Nixon's choices during the war.

    Nixon goes to China
    In 1972, Nixon arrived in China. He was able to make amends with the Chinese after the Cold war, and turn the focus to Vietnam. All while doing this, Nixon was turning the Chinese against the Soviet Union.

    Nixon made the decision to start bombing North Vietnam on December 18, 1972. The bombing would go on until December 29, 1972. 20,000 bombs were dropped, at least 30 US men died and 20 were missing.

    After undergoing a lot of Watergate controversy, Nixon decided to resign. He chose to resign so he would not have to be impeached. Nixon was the first president to resign.

    The Vietcong over took Saigon in South Korea. This resulted in South Korea falling to communism. The city is now called Ho Chi Minh City.
