  • Eisenhower's Domino Theory

    Eisenhower beleived that the spread of Communism would be brought on like the falling pf dominoes. First Indochina would fall to Communism and then that would spread through the rest of Easter Asia. He worried that if he didnt assist France with its war against Indochina then that would be the first domino to fall, and lead to the fall of more nations and he wanted to protect the world from the infestation of communism.

  • Geneva Accords

    Geneva Accords
    There was a cease fire line at the 17th parallel where North and South Vietnam would be split into two sperperate governments. Free elecions would be set up in Cambodia and Loas and each side had 300 days to evacuate any soldiers or malitia men from the opposing side.
  • Gulf of Tonkin Resolution

    Gulf of Tonkin Resolution
    Congress allowed President Eisenhower to use any for nessecary to protect U.S. ships and holding if under attack by North Vietnam. After the U.S. destroyer, The Maddox was supposedly attecked by North Vietnam during a partol in internatational water, Eisenhower beleived they need the permition of Congress to also have the publics support if they needed to retaliate.
  • Operation Rolling Thunder begins.

    Operation Rolling Thunder begins.
    Mass U.S. air strikes on North Korea inorder to assist in protecting our assets in South Vietnam while also helping to stop the spread of Communism. Before, the U.S. had provided minor airial support to South Vietnam by bombing suspected Vietcong bases but this was full on bombarding of the North, in order to push back and weaken their defenses.
  • Tet Offensive

    Tet Offensive
    Vietcong soldiers suprise attacked american property, bases and embassies on the Buddhist holiday of Tet. There had been a peace treaty that would allow the ceremonies involved with Tet to go on. VIetcong took advantage of the truce and attacked.
  • My Lai Massacre

    My Lai Massacre
    200 innocent women, children, and elederly VIetnemees peasanst were mass murdered by the U.S, platoon under the command of Lietenant William Calley. Along with being murdered, some were raped and beaten. In the end no one was conviceted or punished other than Calley.
  • Kent State Massacre

    Kent State Massacre
    Students at Kent State University in Ohio are shot at by the National Guard during an anti-war protest. 12 students were injured and the only 2 people that died were innocent bystandards who weren't even part of the protest. Polls showed that Americans thought the Army was justified in their actions and that the fault was on the students.
