Gulf of Tonkin Resolution
Congress passed the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution. Authorizing President Johnson to take any measures he believed were necessary to retaliate and to promote the maintenance of international peace and security in southeast Asia. -
Operation rolling Thunder begins
The objectives of this mission were to destroy North Vietnam's transportation system, industrial base, and air defenses, and to halt the flow of men and material into South Vietnam. The U.S. did this through air so we didn't actually have to put troops on the ground. -
Tet Offencive
This was a large military compain launched on January 30th 1968. It was led by the Vietcong, it was a series of surprize attacks against military and civilian commands and control centers throughout South Vietnam. -
My Lai massacre
During the My Lai massacre the U.S. killed between 347 and 504 unarmed civilians in South Vietnam. Many women were also gang raped and mutilated. -
Nixon elected
Richard nixon was elected in 1969 he was the 37th president. He also served as the 36th vice president in 1953. -
Kent State
Guards shot 67 rounds in 13 seconds. This killed four students and ingured nine.
