    Berlin Blockade and Airlift
    In an attempt to rid Western Allies of their post in West Berlin, The Soviet Union blocked rail, road and water access. The US and the UK responded with airlifts of food and fuel. This resulted in one of the first major international crises of the Cold War.
  • The Atomic Bomb

    The Atomic Bomb
    The Soviet Union detonate their first atomic bomb.
    Klaus Fuchs, a german born physicist, who had worked on The Manhattan Project, supplied the Soviet Union with information so as to assist in the creation of their own atomic bomb.
    Widespread panic and paranoia begin

    Began when North Korea invaded South Korea. The United States and The United Kingdom came to the aid of South Korea. The Soviet Union and China went to the aid of North Korea. In all, around 5 million soldiers and civilians lost their life as a result of the war.
