The SDS, or the Students for Democratic Society, was founded in 1960 to help support students who were motivated to help change what was going on in the world get their voices heard. -
The U.S. supports the coup of Diem
In 1963, the U.S. decided that helping the Vienamese people perform a coup on the current government was best for the country. The U.S. helped the people do it, and then helped to hold a presidentiala election that wold not end up happening. -
Operation Rolling Thunder begins
The U.S. felt that they needed to help the South Vietnamese people, and so they made a operaction that was code named Operation Rolling Thunder. This operation was the start of the U.S. involvment in the Vietnam War. -
My Lai massacre
During the Vietnam war, there was a group of American soldiers that went to the town of My Lai and massacred from 300 to 500 women and children. They were open firinng on the town, raping the women, adn murdering the children. The My Lai massacre was not heard about unitl much later. -
Nixon wins the election
In the election of 1968, the presidential election was between Richard Nixon, Hubert Humphrey, and George Wallace. Nixon won the election by an overwhelming 32 states won over. -
Kent State Massacre
During the Kent State massacre, there was a protest going on at Kent State college in Ohio about the invasion in Cambodia, and a group of national guard members came to the college and massacred it. In the shooting, there were 4 dead and many others wounded.
