Presidential Election
This was the first televised debate between Kennedy and Nixon. Kennedy won, some says it was because of the televison and being able to see a young charming Kennedy compared to an older man Nixon. Bay of Pigs
U.S. attempted to invade the Bay of Pigs area. Castro knew they were coming and U.S. surrendered soon after. -

Fidel Castro allowed sovietst to construct and hide missiles. U.S. survalience photos found these missiles. -
13 Day Stand Off
Kennedy let the world know what the soviets were doing and naval forces were sent to technically blockade Cuba. Ended with the U.S. and Soviets agreed missiles would be taken apart and to not be used. Cuba agreed as long as the U.S. did not invade the island -
Birmingham Demonstration
High School students used peacful deomnstrations to promote civil rights. Police force was used very agressively including dogs and high pressure water hoses. -
Protesting Monks
Vietnamese monks set themselves on fire as a silent/peaceful protest against the Vietnamese government. The Vietnamese government anti-Buddist policies, and not lettin the monks a Buddist flag on Buddhas birthday. -
Kennedy Assasination
While riding through the Dealey Plaza in Dallas Texas President Kennedy was shot. The man who the majority of people accuse of assasinating Kennedy is Lee Harvey Oswald, although there are many conspiracy theories surrounding this whole event. -

This attack was used as an excuse to advance in the war/attack on vietnam. -
Presidential Election
LBJ drops out of re-election campaign. Robert Nixonn wins election, 301 electoral votes 43.3 %. -
Watergate Scandal
Men broke into the Democratic National Committee's and took tape records, and other records. This was seen as a political motive. Some of these men were put in jail for investigation purgery, and obstruction of justice. Nixon was accused of lying and removing suspicious gaps in tapes. -
Peace Treaty
Peace treaty was signed in Paris. Last American troops leave Vietnam and come home. -
Nixon resigns
After the Watergate Scandal, there was advancement of impeaching Nixon. Instead of going though all of that President Nixon stepped down from office. He is the only president in history who has resigned from being President. -
End of the War
The last remaining American troops were airlifted out of Vietnam and back home.
