Victory over France
Vietnamese forces occupied the French command post at Dien Bien Phu. The French troops ceased fire. 8,000 French troops were killed and 12,000 were wounded. 3,000 Vietnamese troops were killed and 8,000 troops were injuried. Vietnam celebrated their victory while the French were shattered. -
Vietnam Divided
France and Ho Chi Minh sign the Geneva Accords, so Vietnam is to be divided at the 17th parallel until elections can be held in 1956 to reunify the country. The South Vietnamese government and the United States refuse to sign, yet both promise to respect the agreement. -
