Nixon wins the Election
Nixon won the election of 1968, where he was running against George Wallace and Hubert Humphrey. Nixon got a lot of voters because he promised that he would end the war. -
Kent State Massacre
After Nixon announced the U.S. invasion of Cambodia, riots erupted all across the nation. At Kent State, protests got so violent that they burned an ROTC building and the Ohio governor had to send in the national guard. The national guard opened fire on the protestors, killing 4 and wounding 9. -
Pentagon papers
These were top-secret papers that were leaked in the New York Times. They were reports that were sent back from the war and they showed the giant credibility gap between what was actually happening and what was being reported to the general public.
