Tet Offensive
The North Vietnamese join forces with the Viet Cong to launch the Tet Offensive. Doing so, approximately 100 south Vietnamese cities and towns were attacked. The Communists did not succeed in maintaining control over any part of South Vietnam. -
My Lai
U.S. soldiers killed hundreds of Vietnamese civilians in the town of Mai Lai. 300 civilians (old men, women, and children) were killed. After My Lai, many Americans viewed the Vietnam Veterans as "baby killers." -
Richard Nixon's Plan
President Nixon orders many U.S. troops to withdrawal from Vietnam. Henry Kissinger who was the advisor of National Security was involved in trying to end the U.S involvement in Vietnam. -
Kent State University
Disaster struck at Kent State. Four students were killed in a clash with the National Guard.Some of the students who were shot had been protesting against the Cambodian Campaign. Other students who were shot had been walking nearby or observing the protest from a distance. -
