The Geneva Accords
The Geneva Accords was the resolution to the Frenh Indochina war and temporarily divided Vietnam on the 17th Parallel. The North was ruled by Ho Chi Min who was a communist and the South, Ngo Dinh Diem. Ngo Dinh Diem was appointed by the U.S. because they were afraid of communism spreading to the south. -
Eisenehower's Domino Theory
This is Eisenhower's theory about communism in Asia. Eisenhower said that once one of these countries falls, the rest will follow suit. -

Diem was the leader of S. Vietnam, however, he was very unpopular. The government was corrupt they weren't returning land to the peasants. The U.S. agreed to overthrow Diem; however, John F Kennedy was in the dark when this decision was made. -
