Operation Ranchhand
The troops cleared vegetation in order to make it more difficult for guerrillas to hide or ambush. The spread of "Agent Orange" beings in forests and crops that may feed Vietcong troops. -

American choppers and South Vietnamese fighters sweep stronghold near Saigon. This is the first combat mission against the Vietcong. -

The first major conflct between Vietcong and American/South Vietnam troops. Vietcongs ambush the 7th Division and 400 South Vietnamese are dead. -
