    Beginning of 1965. The United States sends troops into Vietnam. They entered Vietnam after Johnson's election. The troops began ground combat.

    Troops started search and destroy missions. They used these missions because of the elusiveness of the vietnamese. These missions really damaged the vietcong and hurt their numbers.
  • Operation Crimp

    Operation Crimp was a Co-op mission between the U.S and Australia. Operation Crimp was meant to locate viet cong headquarters. The operation was a success. Operation Crimp was one of the first operations that was successful and was a cause for more troops in vietnam.

    Attleboro was an American search and destroy mission. Attleboro was very successful with more then 2,000 Viet Cong being killed and capturing supply drops. This success led to more troops in vietnam.

    Operation Cedar Falls purpose was to drive out the vietcong The operation both succeeded and failed. They succeeded in driving them away but destroyed many civilian housing.This gave an insight for the vietcong on how the americans fight.

    The Mai Lai Massacre is is a well known act of violence against civilians. Mai Lai Massacre happened because the U.S started burning down houses. This got a lot of media coverage in the states and led to more troops in vietnam.
