  • French Battalion

    The Battalion resisted the attacks of four Chinese divisions for three days. This lasted from about February 3-16.

    Vietnemese forces occupy the french at post Dien Bien phu.

    North Vietnam gets into an argument with Viet Cong to put Vietnam under communist rule. However the Vietnam war was the consequenece of the Cold War.

  • The Hippie Movement

    There is no exact date in which this movement started. There were many protesters during this era but most of them were anti-war protesters ( hippies .)
  • Gulf of Tonkin

    The Gulf of Tonkin was land of water surrounding south Vietnam. This was when the north was threatened by major attacks.
  • Ho Chi Minh trail

    Throughout the war it's bombed by american jets with little success.
  • Marines Land

    The 3,500 Marines were deployed to keep the U.S. airbase safe, freeing South Vietnamese troops up for combat.
  • Operation Starlite

    Operation Starlite begins the first U.S. ground operation in Vietnam as U.S. Marines strike against Viet Cong.
  • Villages

    Combined Actions are formed by U.S. Marines utilizing South Vietnamese militia units. This is to protect villages.
  • La Drang Valley

    The Battle of Ia Drang Valley marks the first major battle between U.S. troops and North Vietnamese.
  • Bombing Escalates

    The U.S bomb the North Vietnemese center population which makes them angry.
  • Mai Lai Massacre

    Women were getting hurt and so were children. This incident caused global outbreak.
  • Retaliation

    President Nixon threatens to continue bombing North Vietnam in retaliation for Viet Cong's actions in the South.
  • Shutdown

    In response to th Kent State University massacre 400 schools around america shut down in regards of protesters and riots.
  • Anti-war

    President Nixon calls students "bums blowing up campuses". These students were anti-war protesters who were fighting for peace.
  • Kent State Massacre

    At Kent State University several students had been protesting the Cambodian Campaign when guards shot 4 students, 2 of them were protesters the other 2 were just watching.
  • Pledge

    China pledges full support for North Vietnam's struggle against the U.S. China is on North Vietnam's side.
  • Troops

    The last U.S ground troops leave Vietnam. This got us closer to coming to conclusion.
  • American Troops

    The remaining American troops withdraw from Vietnam. Nixon declares "the day we have all worked and prayed for has finally come."
  • Victory

    The Vietnam war ended in communist victory when president Nixon announced the war coming to a conclusion, leaving responsibilities for the Vietnamese government.
