Formation of Vietcong
The creation of the Vietcong is probably one of the most important events that could of happened to start a war and they were our biggest enemies while fighting in Vietnam. -
Gulf of Tonkin Incident
The US destroyer the Maddox was reportedly attacked by North Vietnamese although no damage had occured a few days later there was a second report of a massive attack by the North Vietnamese which turned out to not be completely true and in fact there might not have been an attack at all. Either way this event spiraled us into a full scale attack on the Vietnamese. -
Gulf of Tonkin Resolution
The day that gave the president pretty much full control to have a war with Vietnam without actually calling it a war. -
Lyndon B Johnson Elected
If we had not elected LBJ we would not have been pro war and may never have even interfered in Vietnam but at the time Americans were pro war and voted him in. -
Flaming Dart
A large run of bombings across North Vietnam. This was given the go ahead by the people in the White House and was the first of many bombs being dropped in Vietnam. -
Operation Rolling Thunder
This was by far the biggest air bombings we did in Vietnam it lasted the whole way up to November of 1965 and it was basically constant air strikes wiping out anything and everything in its path -
Troops Enter Vietnam
This could be marked as the very beginning of the war in vietnam. Troops started fighting on land and started the full scale war on Vietnam. -
Search and Destroy Missions begin
We used search and destroy missions because of the way the Vietnamese fought which was guerilla warfare and allowed us to finally do some damage against the Vietcong. -
Tet Offensive
Large scale attack on US troops by the Vietnamese. Many successful attacks bringing large casualties to the United States and we had to send in more troops to make up for our losses -
End of the War
We drew up a peace agreement ending open hostility between the two nations. And we started pulling our troops out of Vietnam
