The state of vietnam was established by President Ho Chi Minh. Under his leader ship a co operation between anti communist viets and the french . The vietnamese launched a successful seize of power creating the republic. -
Battle of Dien Bien Phu
French held garrison at Dien Phu in Vietnam fell after a four month siege led by viet nationalists. After the fall of Dien Phu the french pulled out of the region. 1700 men died that fateful battle. -
Creation of the 17th parallel between North and South Vietnam
North and south vietnam were give a divided line. This was called the 17th parallel. The agreement stipulated of the election which would be held in two years to unify vietnam. -

Saigon fell to North Viets Army. Days before the USA evacuated thousands of americans and south viets.
