He was excuted durring a coup. He was the U.S inside man but he was very unpopular and the south was being beaten by the NVA so diem was executed for his poor leadership. -

A incident off the Gulf of Tonkin occured when the NVA attacked two us destroyers off the Gulf of Tonkin. Which caused a negative outcome for the NVA. Congress gave LBJ a "blank check". -
Gulf of Tonkin Resolution
This was a resolution passed by congress allowing LBJ to send as many troops over to vietnam as necessay to look out for the best interest for the united states. This was reffered to as a blank check. -
Operation Rolling Thunder
Operation Rolling Thunder goals were to boost the lowered morale of the Saigon regime in the Republic of Vietnam, to persuade North Vietnam to cease its support for the communist insurgency in South Vietnam without actually taking any ground forces into communist North Vietnam, to destroy North Vietnam's transportation system, industrial base, and air defenses, and to cease the flow of men and material into South Vietnam. This really was a chance to get back at them by bombing the NVA. -
My Lai
An invasion of a village in My lai by the U.S troops and "charlie" company in South Vietnam because they thought there were vc memebers there. They went in and killed hundreds of children and women. There were no vc memebers there. It was a masacere that was unecessay by a lot. Some of them were mutalated or raped as well. All that were involved got charged but the only member that was convicted was second leitenant William Calley. -

America learns of the My Lai masacere and then become very angry and against the war and the tatics that were being used and the measures that were taken that took inocent lives. This created a higher percentage of doves than hawks. -

The pentagon papers were papers stolen by burgelers that were never caught. These were documents that contained many years of secret information and could and would bring many Prominent Figures down including Nixon, and created a bad image on Hoover for Cointelpro. -
