What sparked the fire?
All the amazing movies you see with cool features and astonishing effects all started with a bet! Yeah, its crazy. The bet was that this man had to prove that all of the limbs of a horse was not touching the ground while galloping. He set up multiple cameras in a row, and released them when the horse stated to move. He was able to keep his $25,000. -
Peephole
Thomas Edison, along with many other inventions, created a Peephole Kinetoscope. It projects an abundance of photos that makes an illusion of a "moving image". Instead if calling it a movie, "moving images" was the correct, normal way to describe what people watched during their free time. -
Movie Theather!
As Edison's invention caught attention, he sold it to a place where people can go to watch films. Today, it would be known as a movie theather, however, back then it was called a Kinetoscope Parlor. There is one odd thing that stands out, only one person can enjoy a film at one time. -
The French Bros
The Lumiere Brothers did somethings that Edison did not want to do. They created the Cinematographe. It is similar to a projector. A projector, or Cinematographe in this case, is more convienent for the public. Which is the main reason Edison did not want to release his similar creation. Profit! Its all about profit. He did not want to lose the money he made off of the Kinetoscope. -
Vaudevill
The Cinemeatographe became more popular than the Kinetoscope and more traditional movie theaters were formed. These new and improve movie theathers were called Vaudevill. Vaudevil were small and were composed of small dramatic skits. -
Short films evolving into longer ones
The films in the movie theathers were only about 30-60 seconds long. In 1903. Edison decided to be more creative and make a film that was 12 minutes long. The life changing film was called The Great Train Robbery. -
The Peak
The Peak in the popularity of Vaudevill was around the early 90's (1905-1915). Only paying a nickel to see a film, the popularity is expected. As these wonderful shows started having an impact on their viewers, Nickelodeon was a pharase used to characterize the actors and actresses. This is the start of America's main TV station for kids. -
The Monopoly
Thomas Edison created a union called MPPC (motion picture patents company). The MPPC controled everything related to the rising film industry. The people wanting to be their own independent film company was at a huge disadvantage, which moved the heart of the film industry to the west coast of the United States. -
The dictatorship in Action
The MPPA, would ruin the independent film company's tools and props because they did not obey their superiors. This is also one of the many reasons as to why the West Coast became more appealing to filmers. Also, California is close to Mexico, which is a great escape plan when Edison tried to go an intimidate others. -
Money
The Independent film companies decided to pay their employees more money. The more money they made, they more popular they would become. This theory has become the fundamental aspect of society today. -
New World
Another cruel thing the MPPA did was hide the names of the actors and actresess. As independent film makers moved to the West Coast, Mary Pickford, an actress, became one of the most popular actresses. She was known as "Americas Sweetheart" -
New World
Along with Mary Pickford becoming a popular name on West Coast, Charlie Chaplin was very adored by others too. He is known for his comical personality. Also, he portrayed the good and evils of society.
