    The first video game that was playable on multiple devices during the time created by Steve Russell. The game was produced solely due to the fact that they needed to attract people to use the PDP-1. Because you were not able to copyright software in the decade it was developed, the game was open-source.
  • Video games are introduced in Arcades

    Video games are introduced in Arcades
    Arcades have video games installed in their locations during this time period. Some of the most notable games installed are: Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Asteroids, Centipede, and Donkey Kong. People give the title to the 70s-80s era as the "Golden Age" for arcades. This introduced ideas for inventions further down the gaming industry.

    A time in history that led to the decline of income for video game companies and producers. The many consoles released on the market and low quality games led to the crash in 1983.
  • Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)

    Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)
    During this decade, the video game industry was suffering severely. This caused a lot of companies to go bankrupt and the video gaming industry to decline in economy. However, the NES, notable known as the Nintendo Entertainment System, was introduced in the 1985 and rose in popularity. This 'revived' the video gaming industry after 2 years of severe suffering.
  • "Console Wars"

    "Console Wars"
    During this time, the Nintendo Entertainment System was the dominant home console of the era. However, Sega released another console in 1989, the Genesis, to compete with the NES. The improvement in technology compared to the NES allowed the Genesis to be a tough rival to Nintendo. However, that wasn't the only factor. Sega also gave themselves a recognizable title known as "Sonic the Hedgehog" which debuted in 1991. With that, Nintendo released the SNES console, which started the console war.
  • 3D Gaming

    In 1995, many home consoles were still competing against each other to become the dominant console of the era. Now with the help of improved technology, these companies were entitled to make more recognizable and notable games for their consoles. Most notably Super Mario 64 on the Nintendo 64.
  • Modern Age Consoles

    With the new improvement in technology, 3 notable consoles were introduced in 2005 and 2006. These included the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii. In the previous years, Sony had no problem competing with Nintendo or Microsoft. This was because the PlayStation 2 was the dominant household console for years. However, with the Wii and Xbox 360, they were starting to have competition. The Xbox 360 was most noted for it's online gaming system. These consoles started the modern age of gaming.

    At the beginning of the 2010 decade, video games found their way onto social media platforms and onto mobile devices. This attracted more people due to the fact that you could play games wherever you went on your mobile device. The most notable mobile device game at the time was Angry Birds, which was reported to have made over $200 million.

    In 2011, Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure was introduced. This wasn't your average video game during the time. This introduced a new video game feature where players were able to use physical action figures to play the game. This led to multiple games introduced that used this strategy. Though the feature didn't last very long in terms of popularity, it was still a change in video game history and brought a new way to create video games.

    In the past decade, companies have found ways to make games more interesting and enjoyable for players. One of these ways is Virtual Reality. It is what it sounds like: You're put in a virtual world and able to move around like it's a real life world. It almost feels real. They continue to find ways to make Virtual Reality more interesting for players and have even found more ways to make games. Another way is Augmented Reality.
