Atari releases the Video Computer System(Atari 2600)
The Atari 2600 was released as a home video game console. The console featured a joystick, interchangeable cartridges, and games in color. The biggest game for the console was Pac-man, but because of the bad quality of the game, a lot of players lost confidence in the console. -

Donkey Kong was released during the summer of 1981 by Nintendo. The game takes place in an Industrial construction setting where Donkey Kong throws barrels at his enemy Jumpman(later on renamed to Mario). The Donkey Kong franchise became very popular and more games were created throughout the livelihood of the franchise. -

In 1983, the video game market crashed. The crash was caused by an over saturated market and the creation of bad quality games such as E.T. This led to the bankruptcy of many video game companies and the waning of console video games. -
The Nintendo Entertainment system
The Nintendo Entertainment System was released in 1985. The video game revived the ailing video game industry of the United States. The NES(Nintendo Entertainment System) contained many ground breaking games such as Super Mario and the Legend of Zelda. -
Nintendo's Gameboy
Nintendo's Gameboy was released in 1989. The Gameboy popularized handheld gaming. Even though it wasn't the first hand held gaming system, the Gameboy revolutionized gameplay and had a long battery life which satisfied it's users. -
Microsoft(Solitaire)
In 1990, Microsoft bundles video game versions of the classic card game Solitaire with Windows 3.0. Millions of people who didn't like playing on consoles, found that they enjoyed playing computer games. Solitaire became one of the most popular electronic games ever and became a model for quick, easy to play video games. -
Sega Genesis
The Sega Genesis released in the U.S in 1991. Sonic the Hedgehog became the headline game for the console and people grew to love the character. The Sega Genesis became a competitor for one of the best home consoles during the time -
Playstation
Sony's first Playstation was released in 1995. The release of the Playstation blew computers out of the home console video game market, Video game companies such as Sega left the home console market, and Playstation dominated the video game market. Playstation has become a top-tier video game console to this day and is revolutionizing how video games are played. -
Microsoft(Xbox)
Microsoft releases the Xbox in 2001. Games such as Halo become hits and the Xbox becomes a major competitor in the video game market. In later years, the release of the Xbox 360 gains millions of fan because of it's graphics and gameplay. Xbox and Playstation have been dominating the market, and the continue to be the two major consoles in the world.
