    Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
    Background: Towards the end of World War II, American bombers dropped the world's first deployed atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. Three days later, the Americans dropped another bomb on Japan in Nagasaki.
    Cause: Japan was unwilling to surrender unconditionally.
    Effects: This led to Japan announcing its unconditional surrender.
  • Japan Surrenders

    Japan Surrenders
    Background: Aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay, Japan formally surrendered to the Allies.
    Cause: A military takeover was attempted by Major Kenji Hatanaka on August 15th, 1945. As a result, the rebels seized control of the imperial palace and burned the Prime Minister's residence, and shortly after the takeover was crushed. This overall led the Emporer Hirohito to surrender.
    Effect: Brought an end to World War II
