    The big three meet in Teheran
    FDR, Stalin, and Churchill meet in Teheran, Iran to discuss adding another war front. Churchill was reluctant to do so but eventually agrees with the others. The added front was in France to push Germans back. The plan became known as Operation Overlord.

    D-Day
    The allies hit Germans with great force at the beaches in France. Planes pushed through to soften German communication and transportation. Then thousands of troops landed at the beaches and pushed them back.
  • Germans turn on Hitler

    Sensing Hitler was losing the war Germans started to disobey Hitler. Rommel and other generals planted bombs in Hitlers office planning to overthrow him. But instead of killing Hitler they killed others and angered Hitler. The plan failed and Hitler continued on with his war.
  • Allies liberate Paris

    With German forces weakening the allies were able to push into Paris. The Germans were ordered to destroy the city but disobeyed and allowed allies to take back over. This was the start of the end of Hitlers total control over his army.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    Hitler ordered a counter-attack on the allied forces. He did so by cutting phone lines
  • Island Hopping battles

    The fiercest battle that took place with Japan. The battle took 36 days to finally win the island, but with a high causality count of 23,000. The fight for Okinawa was even deadlier because it contained a vital air base for Japan. 83,000 Japanese soldiers died in a bombing raid by the Americans.

    While in a little French schoolhouse Eisenhower received word of the German surrender. However FDR died a few weeks earlier and did not see the end of the war. It was up to Harry Truman to finish the war for America.

    Atom Bomb is Tested on American Soil
    The first Atom bomb to ever be tested was dropped on a barren area outside Alamogordo, New Mexico. The light was clearly seen 180 miles away and the sound 100 miles away. America finally knew how to finish the war with Japan.

    America dropped an Atomic bomb on Hiroshima and killed more than 60,000 residents of Hiroshima in two minutes. With Hiroshima being a big military outpost the Americans chose there to bomb first. With this drastic event Japanese leaders debated on a surrender.

    Two events took place that would finish Japan off. The Soviet Union declared war on the Japanese and invaded Manchuria. As well as America dropping another Atom bomb on Nagasaki killing 35,000 more Japanese residents.

    With all the death and destruction that had taken place, the highest levels of leaders on Japan debated wether or not to continue the war. It was Emperor Hirohito who finally made the call to end the war. The most costly war ever was finally over.
