Victor Lidio Jara Martínez was born was born on September,23 1932 in Lonquen, Chile. His parents were Manuel Jara and Amanda Jara they were both farmers. He grew up in rural poverty and his father had alcohol abuse putting a lot of strain on the family. -
Victor learns how to play guitar
Victor Jara got started on music because of two people. Victor Jara was a little kid he got started on music because they made money by renting a room to a local schoolteacher that played guitar who taught him. Also he started singing because Victor mom sang a lot of folk songs. -

Amanda Jara took Victor and his brother Lalo to Santiago Chile to go to school. Jara rarely saw his mother who worked all day. Mom died when he was 15 in Santiago Chile. Victor was so upset that he requested a priest to help him get over it. -

In 1952 Victor Jara was drafted in the Chilean army. Victor Jara did great in the army rising to a first-class Sergeant and a glowing final report that praised his leadership qualities. After Victor got his honorable discharge Victor acted very aimlessly and didn’t know what to do. -
Victor Jara applies to the choir
In late 1953 Victor applied to a newspaper ad to sing at the university of Chile in a choir. His first appearance was in Carl Orff’s music-drama Carmina Burana as a monk. In 1954 Victor was friends with everyone on the choir and traveled to north Chile to learn folk music. -

In 1960 Victor Jara gets married to Joan Jara. They got married in Chile. Joan divorced Victor in 1973 and is still alive today. -
Victor Jara and Salvador Allende
Victor didn’t stop with music Victor was a supporter for the popular unity and publicly spoke on Salvador Allende’s behalf. Victor helped get Salvador Allende elected for president in 1970, Even after Salvador Allende got elected Victor spoke frequently on Salvador Allende’s behalf. -
Victor Jara dies
Victor Jara was assassinated by someone at the Chile soccer stadium on September 16, 1973. He died in the changing rooms of the stadium and was discarded outside of the stadium. He died with 44 bullet wounds in his body. -

In June 2008 Juan Eduardo Fuentes reopened the investigation and examined 40 new pieces for evidence. The police arrested José Adolfo Paredes Márquez and was charged with murder. On December 3, 2009 thousands of people came to a large funeral to honor Victor Jara.
