    Mary Harris Jones

    She was involved in organizing and leading strikes for better working conditions in coal mines. She also addressed child labor and women rights working in hazardous conditions. Her efforts helped inspire other labor movements and bring more awareness to workers struggles in the U.S.
  • Triangle Shirtwaist Factory

    Triangle Shirtwaist Factory

    In response to the 146 people that lost their lives, labor unions began to grow, demanding for better working conditions, shorter hours, and protections from dangerous policies. The fire influenced labor laws and regulations leading to an overall improvement of labor rights.

    Before, state and private organizations handled labor concerns, which often left workers without the proper representation. It's goals include improving working conditions, advancing opportunities, and ensuring the rights and benefits relating to the workplace.     William Green

    He served as the president of the American Federation of Labor and worked to strengthen its wages and working conditions. He also helped maintain labor peace during World War II.
  • Nelson Cruikshank

    Nelson Cruikshank

    He advocated for workers rights and the elderly, was the first director of the Department of Social Security, and helped create Medicare. He expanded social security benefits, protected workers, and improved conditions for their families and retirees.

    César Chávez

    He helped lead the Delano Grape Strike which helped bring awareness and support from other labor and civil rights groups. He was mostly advocated for peaceful protesting to help bring attention to the exploitation of farmworkers.
