Valentina Tereshkova was born on March 6 1937. She was born in Russia in a tiny village called Maslennikovo.
Vladimir Tereshkov, was a tractor driver. He had been a Russian soldier during World War II. He died when Valentina was 2.
Her mother Elena Fyodorovna Tereshkova worked at the Krasny Perekop cotton mill.She had a younger brother named Vladimir and a older sister named Ludmilla. -

Valentina quits scool and begains to work at a plant textile company in order to support her family. Her younger brother does the same thing. -
Sky Diving
While she worked at the Plant Textile company she became interested in Sky Diving. She made her first jump when she was 22. This would help her when she would go to space. -
Joining the Female Cosmonaut Corps
On 16 February 1962, Valentina Tereshkova was selected to join the female cosmonaut corps. Out of more than four hundred applicants, five were selected: Tatyana Kuznetsova, Irina Solovyova, Zhanna Yorkina, Valentina Ponomaryova, and Tereshkova. Qualifications included that they be parachutists under 30 years of age, under 170 cm (5 feet 7 inches) tall, and under 70 kg (154 lbs.) in weight. They had to complete a lot of traning. -
Off to Space
At 12:30 p.m. Valentina was lifted to space she rode the Vostok 6. She stayed in space for 2 days, 23 hours and 12 minutes. -

When Valentina came back from space, one of them, a senior woman who helped Tereshkova out of her space suite, asked Tereshkova if she had seen God out there. She replied no. She relized that she had a bruise on her face and it might have been on food poisining. -
Andriyan Grigoryevich Nikolayev
Valentina married Andriyan Grigoryevich Nikolayev on 3 November 1963 at the Moscow Wedding Palace. They had a baby girl named Elena Andriyanovna who is now a doctor.When Valentina came back from space. If it was food poisining the baby was effected to, right? Then a romour was passed that the baby was deaf and very weak. It turned out that the baby was perfectlly fine. Elena is the first girl to have both parents as astronauts. -
Divorce and Marrige
She divorced with her husband after she had her baby girl. then she married Yuliy Shaposhnikov, who was a surgeon. -
Still Alive
Valentina Tereshkova is still alive to this day.
