  • Yellow Fever (anytime after 9 months)

    get it for traveling at least 10 days before you travel to another country (especially Africa / South America)
    pregnant women should not get (live virus)
    spread by mosquitos
    flu-like symptoms, yellow eyes and skin
  • Pneumococcal

    Caused by an infection (streptococcus pneumoniac bacteria)
    Can cause ear infections and meningitis
    Usually given to children ages 2-15 months, adults, and elderly
    Get the vaccine to lower chances of meningitis and catching a life-threatening disease
  • Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis (

    DTaP or TDaP
    Causes inflammation of mucous membranes and formation of a false membrane in the throat caused by bacteria
    (Pertussis is whooping cough)
    One dose of DTaP at 2, 4, and 6 months, 1 yrs and 7 yrs
    TDaP is a booster at age 11
    Get to provide immunity to yourself and stop the spread to others. These diseases can result in death, take the vaccine to avoid the diseases.
  • Influenza (Annual)

    Annually
    Contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses
    Serious outcomes can include hospitalization and death
    Get vaccine to prevent spread to those who are more vulnerable and minimize evolution of the virus
  • Haemophilus Influenza type B

    infection to bone, blood, and joints
    bacteria - severe pneumonia, meningitis, and pericarditis
    children under 5 are more likely to get it
    2 months, 4 months, 6 months
  • H1N1 Influenza Virus (Annual)

    Should be given to everyone 6 months and older once a year. This virus can cause substantial illness, hospitalization, and death. Should get because the elderly and babies are at higher risk.
  • Smallpox (get booster every 3 years)

    protects you for 3-5 years
    get if you work in a lab or know someone with it
    more severe during pregnancy
    although the vaccination no longer is utilized if there were an outbreak, children would receive it at age 1 and a booster every 3 years
  • Varicella

    Chickenpox - high;y contagious
    itchy blister / rash
    2 doses before age 6
    Men should get the vaccine because the fever that is produced can kill sperm cells
  • Inactivated Poliovirus

    Polio
    Can be life-threatening and infect the CNS
    Recommended 4 doses before age 6
    Get in case of travel and to protect children
  • Human Pappillomavirus (age 11 and 12)

    Get two doses at age 11-12 to prevent spreading the disease to partners / pregnant women
