Japan's Attack on Pearl Harbor
On the morning of December 7, 1941, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. The whole point of the attack was to scare the US into not joining the Allies in the war. Their plan backfired though and because of the attack the US joined the war. -
Franklin D. Roosevelt
Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor, four days after Germany and Italy declared war on the US, brought the United States into the war. As president, Roosevelt was Commander-in-Chief and he took this role seriously by working with the military advisors and overriding them when he had to. He moved to create the United Nations against the Axis powers. -

Manzanar
Japanese people whose families originally came from Japan were incarcerated and moved to these camps. It was feared the the Japanese citizens were spies. The camps were surrounded by barbed wire fences armed guards. Many died in these camps, some were shot by guards, other died of disease and old age. -
D-day
Known as the Battle of Normandy, when the Allies freed themselves from Germany on the Western Front. The Americans, British and Canadians fought Germany. Known as the beginning of the end of WW2, it was heavily planned, and took a lot of strategic planning. -
Battle of the Bulge
The Battle of the Bulge started when Germany lauched an attack in Belgium. Germany had over 200,000 soldiers in the battle and the US had thousands of casualties. The battle ended on January 25, 1945 and to this day is known as own of the greatest battles that tthe US has ever fought in. -
Harry Truman

This was the last conference with the USA, Britain, and Russia.President Truman was president of the United States by this time and Winston Churchill was prime minister; Stalin was the only original member of the “Big Three”. Issues discussed: Allied control over the defeated Germany, reparations, the Oder/Neisse Line, and Russia joining the war in the Far East. -
First Atomic Bomb is Dropped
The US had been planning an attack on Japan for a while but it was going to be very costly. The US threatened Japan saying that they could either surrender or face destruction. Japan refused to surrender so the US dropped the nuclear bomb "Little Boy" on Hiroshima, Japan. -
Second Atomic Bomb is Dropped
Three days after the first atomic bomb was dropped, the US dropped the second atomic bomb ever used on Nagasaki, Japan. Over 185,000 people were killed from the two bombs. Soon after the second bomb was dropped, Japan surrendered to the Allies and WW2 ended.
