    This was one of the first acts directed to merchants in the Americas, the overall tax on goods droped by three pence, but the new tax covered more things and was enforced harshly. this angered many people.
  • Stamp Act

    The stamp act was an effort to help pay for the debt of England, many citizens in britian were taxed severly and nearly causes revolts. So parliment decides that they will put a tax on all officail goods and documents. This caused lots of issue with the colonies because it was saw as a way to tax us more, and without representation.

    The quartering act was passed right after the stamp act. this act allowed and forced people to allow soldiers into their homes and let them stay. this was done by britian to better accompany their soldiers and at no cost.
  • Townshend acts

    This acts came a few short months after the stamp and quartering act. the act was in response to the hostile attitude in the colonies. this act put tax on major goods and was goong to raise 40,000 pounds a year for britian.

    Citizens in boston threw objects, and harrassed soldiers at a barracks, It became so bad that the soldiers shot into the crowd to defend themselves.

    The original plan for this congress was to resolve the issues with Great Britian, but some also wanted to protect the colonies rights. this mix caused the purpose to change into a way to improve our nation
  • Battle of lexington and concord

    Battle of lexington and concord
    This battle was the start of the revolution. On April 18, 1775, British General Thomas Gage sent 700 soldiers to destroy guns and ammunition the colonists had stored in the town of Concord, just outside of Boston. They also planned to arrest Samuel Adams and John Hancock, two of the key leaders of the patriot movement. Paul Revere rode to Lexington and alerted Samual Adams and John Hancock saying "The British are coming, the British are coming!" Nobody knows who shot the first shot.

    Redcoats stormed Boston again and the second continental congress convened. It was then that the Continental Army would be created. The Congress commissioned George Washington of Virginia to be the supreme commander.

    Common sense was the first written work to openly ask for independance from Britian. Paine wrote in a way to speak towards the common people. This allowed more people to get involved and educated towards Britian.

    Shortly after the British flee from Boston, the Continental Congress created a committee to write a declaration of independence. Thomas Jefferson, the youngest of the committee, was put in charge of drafting the document. Jefferson’s argued that everyone was born equal in the eyes of god, and therefore had the same rights. He also argued that King George III was “unfit to be the ruler of a free people” because he had committed so many acts of tyranny.

    France became an ally of the United States in May 1778. Their government sent money, weapons, troops, and warships to the Continental army. In addition, Spain began a fight against the British as well.

  • Benedict Arnold

    Benedict Arnold
    Benedict Arnold, a past General in the Continental Army, is known more for his treason when he relinquished his command of West Point to the British. In return for this, he was given a large payment and a position as a General in the British Army. On September 21, British Major Andre came to finalize this agreement, but was stranded once The Vulture was fired upon by the Americans, and was forced to head away. He then had to go into town, but was captured. Arnold's treason was discovered.

    5500 French soldiers docked in Rhode Island to help their American allies against the British in New York City. The combined armies began to move toward Yorktown, Virginia.They spread false information that they were planning a siege of New York City, as to catch them off guard. De Grasse sailed to the Chesapeake Bay and set up a naval blockade.Meanwhile Washington and Rochambeau surrounded Cornwallis and opened fire.
  • Cornwallis Surrenders

    Cornwallis Surrenders
    After losing many soldiers, Cornwallis decides to meet and discuss terms on his surrender. After they decide on terms the treaty of Paris is signed two years later.

    The treaty of paris was the treaty that ended the war between Britian and US. This was a major defeat for Britian, but Our first success.
