John adams was elected in 1796 and was the first contested president. -

France was attacking our trade ships and offered money to stop but we refused and built up our naval army. -
John Marshall Appointed
John Marshall was appointed to the Cheif justice of supreme court and was a major federalist. -
Alien act
This law did'nt allow foreigners to vote. -
Sedition act
It was when the federalists created a law so no one could speak bad about the people in office. -
Election of Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson didn't want to have a very showy election. He was a normal person just like everyone else. -
Louisiana Purchase
It was purchased by Thomas Jefferson from Napolean B. and almost doubled the size of the US. -
Marbury VS. Madison
Thomas Jefferson was trying to level out the judges by getting rid of federalists and getting some republicans so marbury sued Madison but madison ended up not having to pay. -

This act was passed to put a ban on any trade with England and France. -
Embargo Act
His act was passed to put a ban with trade from any country. -
Election of James Madison
James won his election easily. Became the 4th president. -
Election of Monroe
This was also known as the era of good feeling because all of the parties sort of disappeared and now there was no more arguing between them, Madison also won easily. -

The war of 1812 was started because the British was doing things that the US didn’t like. The war ended with no one winning or losing anything. -
Battle of New Orleans
British tried to capture new Orleans but Andrew Jackson stopped them. Only 7 Americans died. -
McCullouch v. Maryland
The states wanted to create a state bank but Mculloch refused to pay the tax, and so the supreme court ruled in his favor. -
Missouri Compromise
Missouri wanted to join the union but that would upset the balance between slave and free states so maine joined also and became a free state. -
Monroe Doctrine
This was a response in return to the Spanish's threat to restore the Spanish Monarchy. -
Gibbons v. Ogden
The states gave Gibbons the power to tax anyone on the river but Ogden didn't agree so he took it to the government and they ruled to Ogden's side. -
Election of Jackson
Jackson ruled the election because now the farmers were allowed to vote and he grew up in that sort of life too so they loved him. -
Electon of 1824
John Quincy adams was elected because clay helped him win. -
Beginning of Democratic Party
The Democratic party began right after the parties disappeared because of Jackson. -

Andrew Jackson went trough with this act to get rid of the Indian's so he can get the land there. -
Worcester v. Georgia
Worcester was a missionary who lived with the Natives Indians. Georgia didn’t like that he was living with them so Georgia sent him to prison. -
Closing of the Bank
Andrew jackson closed the bank because it was mainly for more rich people not farmers and such. -
Expanded Suffrage
It allowed the “common man” to vote. (farmers and such).
