    The Jamestown people were told that if there settlement didn't generate any wealth they wouldn't receive financial aid so they looked for gold. As a consequence the settlers spent less time farming and thus when it came winter-time they didn't have any food. After the first year only 38 of the original 144 settlers survived.

    "The harsh public antagonism of the 1790s largely came to an end with the victory of the Democratic- Republicans in the 1800 election." Jefferson called this "The revolution of 1800" To Jefferson and his supporters, the defeat of the Federalists ended their attempt to lead America on a more conservative and less democratic course." The federalist never played a political role again so the people agreed with Jefferson too. The only flaw of the "second revolution" was that it embraced slavery.

    Andrew Jackson gets elected, he appeals to people because is a "regular man." He "kills" the second national bank and makes government funds go to local banks. He also makes the executive branch too powerful earning himself the nickname "king Jackson". He also massacred and pushed natives out of their homes.

    Manifest destiny
    "pioneers believed that America had a divine obligation to stretch the boundaries of their noble republic to the Pacific Ocean." The westward expansion was a bigger thing than ever. The term "Manifest destiny" was first used by a newspaper editor named John o'Sullivan adding a more holy aspect to the westward expansion.

    The Mexican war was mostly a war for land. The American settlers who were in Texas were being forced to be Catholics and weren't allowed to own slaves. The American-Texans and Spanish speaking Tejano people fought for the independence of Texas adding it to the United States.

    "The book that started the civil war"
    " "So you're the little woman who wrote the book that made this great war." This was Abraham Lincoln's reported greeting to HARRIET BEECHER STOWE when he met her ten years after her book UNCLE TOM'S CABIN was published." This might have been an exaggeration however this book was very significant to the starting of this war. People in the north were presented with what was going on in the south. The book sold 300,000 copies in the north and sold even more in Great Britain.

    The Peculiar Institution
    The "Peculiar Institution" means slavery. Slavery was in America since the Jamestown colony however it reached its defining point in the 19th century. The practice of owning slaves was regular, the slaves were kept on plantations mostly for picking cotton. Blacks also had very few rights. They weren't allowed to learn, marry, or have firearms. A Black man's crime got a worse punishment than a white mans. Blacks were also not allowed to testify in court.

    Abraham Lincoln gets elected and makes efforts to abolish slavery. He was elected in a bad time...

    This gruesome war lasted 4 years. The amount of Americans lost in this war was more than all of the losses in all wars America fought, ever! The war was won with the victory of the Union and slavery was abolished afterwards.
