    Discovery of New World

    Discovery of New World
    It's the date when Christopher Columbus discovered New World. He thought he finally reached the island near India, so he named the people there "Indians". The New World, now as known as America.

  • Jamestown, the first permanent Englsih settlement.

    Jamestown, the first permanent Englsih settlement.
    May 14, 120 people arrived in New World, America. They were supposed to establish a colony and look for gold. They thought they could find gold very fast and return to England. Unfortunately they didn't and by the december, more than half of them died from starvation,attacks of Native American (Indians) or disease.

  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    The beginning was in 1768, the city of Boston was occupied by British soldiers. Then on March 5, 1770, come colonists got in an argument with the soldiers then the argument lead to firing guns at colonist. 5 were killed and soldiers were brought to court. Only 2 were found guilty.

    Boston Tea Party
    On December 16, 1773 a group of sixty colonists were dressed as Indians and gathered around the ship in Boston Harbor. They dumped the tea from the ship in the water. It was like the revenge because England force them to pay taxes that they didn't want to, but later British passed even stricter laws of taxes to punish them for dumping the tea.

    The first state of America.
    December 7, 1787. Delaware became the first state of US constitution. US is the only country that is divided by state. It’s because US was colonized by different countries and united into one country. This is a big step to US’s independency.

    In June 21, 1788, the new U.S Constitution created by federal government became the law of America. Later, The Bill of Rights was added to the Constitution. The Bill of Rights consists of ten additions to the original Constitution with basic liberties like freedom of speech, press and religion.

    The first republic country
    In 1789, the first modern republic was found in US. It’s very similar to democracy but it’s different. After the Civil war, it was a little changed and it was the start of republic now in US.

    George Washington became 1st president
    On April 30, 1789, George Washington became the first president of America. It was the beginning of new government system in Amereica.

    Slave Code
    During 1660s to 1860s, especially in 1800s, the Slave Code was developed in every slave state. It defined slaves as property, not the same terms as human but as goods, items. Some people said it was to defined people by person’s color. It was how slavery was common in America.

    War of 1812
    June 1812, a war began between US and Great Britain. It cause from interfering from Great Britain towards US after America became independent. The war ended in 1815, and from this US treated more respectfully from other countries.

    Monroe Doctrine
    Monroe Doctrine is a policy issued by James Monroe the 5th president of America. It prevented European nations to not establish new colonies in America. From this US was separated from Europe’s interference.

    Andrew Jackson became the president.
    In 1828, Andrew Jackson was elected for the president. He led the War of 1812 to the victory. He started the Jacksonian democracy. He also forced to remove the Native American.

    Indian removal act.
    In May 26, 1830, Indian removal act was passed by first 21 congress of America. It was led by Andrew Jackson. From this act, Native Americans were forced to move from their land. During this movement, lots of Indians died from dieses, hunger, and cold.

    Mexican War.
    In April 25, 1846 the war between US and Mexico started, and it continued till 1847. The cause of war was they both argue that Texas was their territory. At the end, US won and Mexico gave US lots of land and US’s size became larger.

    During 1848 to 1859, there was a gold rush in America, California. The settlers in West found gold and because of that even more people moved to West.

  • Uncle Tom's Cabin

    Uncle Tom's Cabin
    “So you're the little woman who wrote the book that made this great war.", the little woman in this quote is Harriet Beecher Stowe, she wrote the most popular 19th century novel. The novel called Uncle Toms’ Cabin. Like the quote, this book led to the war, North and South war. After this book was published, people (white) in America started to realize that slavery is wrong. At the end, the slavery was over.

    Civil War.
    In 1861, the civil war of US started and ended in 1865. The war caused because of different opinions of slavery in North and South of America. The result was winning of North but lots of people died from the war.

    Abraham Lincoln killed.
    In April 14, 1861, Present Lincoln was murdered during the play he was watching. The murderer was Booth and he believed in slavery. He killed just after the civil war, just after his hope, antislavery became true.

    Freedman’s Bureau
    In March 4, 1865. The government created a temporary agency to help freed slaves. They supported with food and medical care to help them resettle. They also opened free schools for them to educate them. Also they focused on employment of freed slaves. It lasted from 1865 to 1872.

  • Ku Klux Klan (KKK)

    Ku Klux Klan (KKK)
    May, 1866, the Ku Klux Klan was formed. It’s a group that was opposed of black’s equality. They didn’t believe that blacks should have the same rights and freedom as whites. They killed lots of blacks and even whites who were in their way, who didn’t agree with them. Blacks had hard time from KKK's terror even they were finally freed.
