Spanish-American War A war between Spain and the United States, fought in 1898. The war began as an intervention by the United States on behalf of Cuba. -
World War I
World War I World War I was sparked by the death of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. The U.S. kept neutral until their ships got involved and began being sinked by rival nations. It also known as "The First World War" and "The Great War" -
Americanization Movement
Americanization Movement The Americanization movement greeted immigrants between 1895 and 1924. Frances Kellor led the Americanization movement through all of its phases. -
Harlem Renaissance
Harlem Renaissance A renewal and flourishing of black literary and musical culture during the years after World War I. Also known as the "New Negro Movement" and "Black Renaissance" -
League of Nations
League of Nations An international organization to promote world peace and cooperation that was created by the Treaty of Versailles. The U.S. never joined, because they felt they should stay out of it. -
Great Depression
The Great Depression The economic crisis and period of low business activity in the U.S. and other countries, roughly beginning with the stock-market crash in October, 1929, and continuing through most of the 1930s. It gave governmet the opportunity to finally start taking control of their nations. -
World War II
World War II World War II was sparked by the onvasion of Poland by Germany. It lasted from 1939-1945. -
The Holocaust
The Holocaust The first mass gassings began at the camp of Belzec, near Lublin. The Holocaust was a horrific time in history, also known as "The Final Solution" -
Cold War
The Cold War The US dropped bombs on Hiroshama and Nagasaki causing Japan to retailliate and proclaim war. They were victories and losses on both sides. -
Vietnam War
Vietnam War The Vietnam War was the prolonged struggle between nationalist forces attempting to unify the country of Vietnam under a communist government. Also of the United States attempting to prevent the spread of communism. -
March on Washington
March on Washington A political rally in hope for thousands of Americans to gain freedom and get jobs. The march was mentioned in MLK Jr's famous speech. -
Civil Rights Act
Civil Rights Act The Civil Rights Act ended segregation in public places. It also banned employment discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. -
President Ronald Reagan
Ronald Reagan President Ronald Reagan helped redefine the purpose of government and pressured the Soviet Union to end the Cold War. He solidified the conservative agenda for decades after his presidency -
President Bill Clinton
Bill Clinton Bill Clinton was the 42nd president of the United States, and the second to be impeached. He oversaw the world's longest peacetime economic expansion. -
Globalization
Globalization Globalization is the process of international integration arising from the interchange of world views, products, ideas, and other aspects of culture. It is sometimes not agreed upon by U.S. citizens. -
Anti-Globalization
Anti-Globalization Citizans of Seattle held a huge protest and were prepper sprayed by police officers. They were fighting for many reasons, including the foreigners taking their work. -
Americanization Today
Today Often complained about because of its comparison to globalization. There are widespread fears that in today's borderless, high-tech world, national differences will be overwhelmed by American economic and cultural domination.
