Republicanism or Democratic-Republicans became more well know in the election of 1796. They are known for despising Federalist policies. John Adams, a Democratic-Republican wins the election of 1796. Similarly, in the election of 1800 a Democratic-Republican named Thomas Jefferson also wins the presidential election. These elections both make the political view Republicanism more well known in America.

The Indian Removal Act
President Andrew Jackson issued the Indian Removal Act which authorized the negotiation of with Native American Tribes to get them to relocate West of the Mississippi River.

Trail of Tears
The Trail of Tears followed the Indian Removal Act. It was the route Native Americans took when the U.S. government forced them, by gunpoint, to move West of the Mississippi River. Many of then died from diseases and mistreatment.

Nat Turner's Rebellion
Nat Turner's Rebellion was a slave rebellion lead by Nat Turner in 1831. The plan was to rebel against the slaveholders by killing them, in the end the rebel slaves killed from 55 to 65 people. This event was the only effective slave rebellion.

The U.S. was expanding west, they wanted to own land owned by Mexico so the U.S. declared war on Mexico. In the end the U.S. won and got Mexico's land.

The Underground Railroad was a network of routes and safe houses that helped slaves escape into free states or Canada. The Underground Railroad was most used during 1850 to 1860. It is estimated that 100,000 slaves were freed by 1850.

American Civil War
The Civil War started because of different political ideas between the Northern and Southern states. One of the main differences between the states were if slavery should be legal or illegal. In the end, the North won the war in 1865.

Reconstruction Act
The U.S. Government added the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments to the U.S. Constitution. The 13th Amendment abolished Slavery, the 14th Amendment gave all people who were born or naturalized in the United States citizens, and the 15th Amendment gave African Americans the right to vote.

The Compromise of 1877
The Compromise of 1877 solved the 1867 U.S. Presidential election. The election was between the Republican nominee Rutherford B. Hayes and Democratic nominee Samuel Tilden. The intial outcome was Tilden by slightly winning both the popular and electoral college votes, but the compromise made Hayes win the election.
