Indian Removal Act and Trail of Tears
The Indian Removal Act, signed by president Andrew Jackson in 1830 which effectively forced many Native American tribes to be relocated and out of their homes which led to the Trail of Tears which was a period of forced relocation of southern natives which had devastating consequences for the natives. Over 100,000 natives were forced to leave and around 15,000 died -

America wanted to expand into California and New Mexico but Mexico refused to sell them. The president then sent troops to a disputed area of the Texas and Mexico border, then declared war against Mexico. It resulted in Mexico losing and ceding 1/3 of its territory to the US including Utah, California, Texas, Arizona, and Nevada -
Compromise of 1850
Fugitive Slave Act strengthened, California became a free state, Utah and New Mexico got to vote, and DC slave trade was abolished -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
Two new territories were created, Kansas and Nebraska. Use popular sovereignty for slavery. Failed because people from Missouri tried to vote for slavery in Kansas. -
Dred Scott v. Sanford
Supreme court decision that congress can't ban slavery from federal government. Enslaved people can never be citizens -
