Boston Massacre
Armed British soldiers fired shots into a crowd of colonists, injuring 5. -
Boston Tea Party
Colonists dressed up as indians, and to protests the unfair tax on tea, dumped a bunch of it into Boston harbor. -
The Intolerable Acts
The law shut down Boston harbor, the Quartering Act authorized British commanders to house soldiers in private homes and buildings. These acts were intended as punishment for the Boston Tea Party. -
First Continental Congress
56 delegates from all colonies attempted to create a Declaration of rights and elected Virginia Peyton Randolph as the first president of the congress. -
Lexington and Concord
The first Battle of the Revolution, the animosity and hatred of the British and the Colonists reached a breaking point. -
Second Continental Congress
The colonial leaders called the Second continental Congress in Philadelphia to decide what to do next. Some sought for for independence while others believed that they should apologize to Great Britain. -
The Publishing of Common Sense
Thomas Pain published his pamphlet Common Sense in which he outlined why America should be given its independence. It is partly because of this that the people were so heavily in favor of the revolution.
