  • Election of George Washington

    Election of George Washington
    George Washington was our first president. He was in the revolutionary war and was always seen as a hero. His election took place in 1788 through 1789.
  • Sedition Act

    Sedition Act
    This act made publishing anything fake or scandalous illegal, and it became a high misdemeanor. People could be inprisioned because of this act. It was passed in 1798 on July 14. This act went against 1st Amendment of the Bill of Rights, this is what guaranteed freedom of speech. The Sedition Act ended in 1801
  • Bill of Rights added to Constitution

    Bill of Rights added to Constitution
    In 1776, Mason had written the Bill of Rights to add to the Constitution. When it was shown to the Congress they approved it will be important to add to that Constitution. They also allowed it to be revised over the years to fit the needs of that time period.
  • Beginning of the Democratic Republican Party

    Beginning of the Democratic Republican  Party
    The party was started by Thomas Jefferson. This party was made since Alexander Hamilton’s views and Thomas Jefferson’s were so much different on what ways they wanted to see America in the future. They wanted more power to the states and to have small governing. Democratic Republicans also wanted a strict interpretation of the constitution.
  • Beginning of the Federalist Party

    Beginning of the Federalist Party
    The party was made by Alexander Hamilton, he had different views from Thomas Jefferson so he formed the Federalist Party. The federalists wanted a strong federal government and a loose interpretation of the constitution. People from the Federalist Party that were in the army in high ranks became abusive and didn’t allow anyone of the Democratic Republicans to rank up.
  • The Whiskey Rebellion

    The Whiskey Rebellion
    The Whiskey Rebellion was in the time period of 1791. The reason for the Whiskey Rebellion was when many farmers in the western counties were angered by the excise tax on Whiskey. The tariff eliminated any profit the farmers made from the sale or barter of an important cash crop. There was a wide variety of angered people by the settlers of the region against the federal government.

    The Election of John Adams
    In the election of 1796, John Adam was a Federalist. During the election he didn't have much seriousness. He was known for being stubborn and having a bad temper. Even though John Adams had won the election, Thomas Jefferson, his opponent; had became vice president. John Adams received 71 electoral votes while Jefferson received 68.
  • XYZ Affair

    XYZ Affair
    Three diplomats went to see Charles Maurice de Talleyrand to talk to him about France attacking American Ships. The diplomats ended up waiting for weeks for him. Charles Maurice de Talleyrand sent three people known as X Y and Z to meet with the diplomats. They asked that America should pay them 250,000$ if they wanted to see Charles Maurice de Talleyrand. The three diplomats said no then replied “Millions for defense, but not one cent for tribute.”
  • Alien Act

    Alien Act
    The Alien Act increased the time it took for an alien to become an American neutralized citizen. Also if the government saw in necessary, they could in-prision those the thought needed it. The Alien Act was passed because most immigrants were becoming Democratic Republicans, to stop this John Adams made it where it took them longer to become citizens, therefore making them not able to vote.

    Election of Thomas Jefferson
    The Election of Thomas Jefferson was during the time period of 1800. The person with the most votes became president and the person with the second most votes became vice president. Thomas Jefferson at the time was competing for president against John Adams. It was a battle the whole way through but Jefferson came up on top.
  • John Marshall appointed

    John Marshall appointed
    John Marshall paved a new path for the national court. He was able to give the judicial branch more power which led to new responsibility. One was that they can declare laws unconstitutional and get rid of them. Marshall helped the supreme court tremendously.
  • Marbury v. Madison

    Marbury v. Madison
    An 1803 court case involving William Marbury and James Madison. It started when Thomas Jefferson told Madison not to deliver papers confirmed Marbury’s appointment. Because of this Marbury sued Madison and was sent to the supreme court. Madison won the court case but the supreme court also gained the power of judicial review.
  • Lousiana Purchase

    Lousiana Purchase
    The Louisiana Purchase happened on December 1st, 1803. America brought land from France. The Louisiana purchase nearly doubled the size of America. The French were fighting a war and the war was costly, so France sold territory to America. The land was gained by Thomas Jefferson, the president at that time. He wasn’t sure if it were constitutional, but it was.
  • Lewis and Clark expedition

    Lewis and Clark expedition
    In 1804, Jefferson hired two young men to explore westward. In their expedition Lewis and Clark have found dozens of species of animals and wildlife. After their long journey they returned home in 1806, Americans cheered and celebrated the return of Lewis and Clark. They also brought back useful information about the Louisiana Purchase.

    The Embargo act was during the time period of December 1807. The embargo was between the United states and Great Britain. What led to the embargo act was violations of the US neutral power. It was a drastic measure for the economic hardship for other nations.

    The Election of James Madison
    The election of James Madison happened on December 7, 1808. James Madison was a Democratic- republican going up against Charles Pickney who was a Federalist. This election was the first of two instances in American history. It was proved that this would be the last election in which Virginia had the most votes in the electoral college.
  • The Non- Intercourse Act

    The Non- Intercourse Act
    The Non- Intercourse Act was during the time period of 1809. It was when six statues had been passed by the United States congress. It regulated commerce between Native Americans and non-Indians. The first four acts had expired after the years. The 1802 and 1834 acts had no expiration.
  • The War of 1812

    The War of 1812
    The War of 1812 was during the time period of 1812. The war of 1812 happened because there was a military conflict between the United States and the British Empire. America had declared war for several reason’s against the British. The war was fought in three different places, and those places were the sea, warships, and privateers of both sides of the war attacked each other's merchant ships.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    Battle of New Orleans
    In late 1814, the British prepared to attack New Orleans. But Andrew Jackson was waiting for them, he was ready to defend with a strong army. Jackson’s army was made mostly of frontiersmen. During the battle, the British kept on marching towards Jackson’s army but fell under deadly fire. It was a great victory for the Americans.
  • Election of James Monroe

    Election of James Monroe
    In 1816, James Monroe easily won the election. He was the last Revolutionary War officer to become president. He was 60 when he took office and still followed the fashions of the late 1700s. Americans were fond of his old-fashioned
    ways. Following his election was also the era of good feelings.
  • Missouri Compromise

    Missouri Compromise
    The Missouri Compromise is where Maine would be a slave free state and Missouri would be a slave state. This angered people that were in Maine. This relieved some of the tension for a while with the issue with blacks between whites. This was later repealed then declared seen as unconstitutional since congress didn’t have the power to settle which states were free or slave.

    The Monroe Doctine
    The Doctine explains that America will no longer tolerate further colonalization from European countries. It also explains that America won’t join in any European affairs. This also announces the political system in America is different from European countrys.
  • Gibbons v. Ogden

    Gibbons v. Ogden
    A court case based on a system where states can regulate trade between other states. The supreme targeted a specific case where New York was trying to regulate trade between New Jersey. After hearing this the supreme court ruled that a state can only regulate trade within its borders. Only the federal government had power to regulate interstate commerce, this decision helped the economy by making it easier for the government to regulate trade.

    The McCulloch v. Maryland act
    The McCulloch v. Maryland act happened during the time period of March 6, 1824. Congress had chartered the second bank of the United States. James McCulloch, the cashier of of the Baltimore branch of the bank refused to pay the tax. The court held that congress had the power to incorporate the bank and that Maryland could not tax some instruments.

    Four candidates were running for president in 1824. Although Jackson won the most votes he didn’t win the majority.John Quincy Adams took action as he made a “corrupt bargain” with Henry Clay thus winning him the position of president. Unfortunately this didn’t make Jackson and his supporters happy.

    The election of 1824 was during the time period of 1812. It showed that the era of good feeling was coming to and end.It was a very close election and was a surprise too many political leaders. The winner had came out to be Andrew Jackson.

    In the election of 1828 Andrew Jackson was competing with John Quincy Adams. It was a hard election, Jackson supporters were going against Adams supporters. But in the end Jackson won the majority of the votes. His supporters cheered knowing they had a president supporting the common man.

    Beginning of the Democratic Party- The Democratic Party was started by Andrew Jackson. In this party they praised the common man. They would elect the common man to politics and have them serve under them if the person got elected. This Party started as in what people would call the "Jacksonian Era"

    The Indian removal act happened during the time period of May 28, 1830. It was signed into law by President Andrew Jackson. Most European Americans favored the passage of the Indian removal act. It moved tens of thousand of Americans Indians west.
  • Worcester v. Georgia

    Worcester v. Georgia
    The Supreme Court was held on March, 3 1832. Worcester V. Georgia was important because it was was a case in which the United States Supreme Court left the convention of Samuel Worcester. It held that the Georgia criminal statue that restricted the non- Indians from being present on Indian lands. Without a license from the state that was considered unconstitutional.
  • Closing of the U.S. Bank

    Closing of the U.S. Bank
    After having a hard time at the bank, Jackson vetoed the bank bill. He gave two reasons to why he vetoed it, one is that it was unconstitutional and second that it was only supporting the rich. After getting rid of the bank, Jackson believed he won a victory.
